Joseph

Joseph heard of Gabriel’s word to her, his espoused kin,
Joseph said he still would wed, defend and take her in.
Only with the Spirit’s gift could Joseph understand,
Only she could make him see that all was as t’was planned.
Sent away, his tax to pay where born, as Caesar said.
So Mary rode from her abode on the donkey Joseph led.
Entering in to Bethlehem, a stable there to dwell,
Entrusted by the Lord on high to greet Immanuel.
Peaceful night, by candlelight he ushered in the boy,
Placed with care in manger there, Joseph shared God’s joy.
Humble man took Christ Child’s hand and vowed that he’d accept
Heaven’s son, the Holy one, to nurture and protect.
