                                    The Stable

The site where the Father showed man of His love,
The contrast so stark from His throne up above.
Here Mary, in pain, ushered forth the new King,
Here angels descended from heaven to sing.
Each animal there gathered ‘round Him to see,
Each creature revered Jesus on bended knee.

So softly there, Mary sang while Jesus slept,
So softly there, Joseph, with gratitude wept.
There Mary wrapped Jesus in soft swaddling bands,
There Joseph, with love, stroked the tiny babe’s hands.
And angels told shepherds the baby was born,
And humbly they went there that first Christmas morn.
By scriptural signs Wise Men knew of God’s grace,
By seeking the star, they were led to that place.
Laying gifts there for Jesus, they hallowed his name,
Laying down His own life was the reason He came.
Ever humble that stable, which housed earth’s Creator.
Ever humble reminder no palace was greater.
